Colorado Day is celebrated annually on August 1. The holiday commemorates the admittance of Colorado as a state of the Union on August 1, 1876, under an Act of Congress signed by President Ulysses S. Grant. In March 1907, the state legislature officially passed a law designating August 1 as Colorado Day; thus, the holiday started holding on August 1, 1907.

The adoption of the flag of the United States took place on 14 June 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day; on August 3, 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress.

Flag Day is not an official federal holiday. Title 36 of the United States Code, Subtitle I, Part A, CHAPTER 1, § 110[4] is the official statute on Flag Day; however, it is at the president's discretion to officially proclaim the observance.

CDR Storz has informed us that we are all cordially invited to two upcoming events in Groton:

    1) Crew and Family picnic for the boat on Friday, 8 July, and

    2) His Change of Command on Friday, 5 Aug.

More details will be forthcoming but anyone interested in attending please notify our Coordinator, Rick Riessen, of your interest at 788Rick@gmail.com.

I encourage all hands to attend one or both of these events.  The crew REALLY appreciates seeing us at their activities, and, even more importantly, both will be FUN!

    V/R,

    Don

    President, USS Colorado Submarine Association
