USS Colorado (SSN 788)

USS Colorado is the 15th of the Virginia class submarines. On June 25, 2012 Gov. John Hickenlooper and Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus hosted a ship naming ceremony at the state Capitol in honor of USS Colorado. The Virginia-class submarine, designated SSN 788, started construction in March of 2012 and was commissioned on March 17, 2018. She was constructed at Electric Boat shipyard in Groton, CT known as the “Submarine Capital of the World”. She is the fourth ship named Colorado.

The USS Colorado Submarine Association is a Colorado based organization founded in 2019 to support the crew and families of the USS Colorado and to strengthen ties between the boat and the state. Our Mission is to:

 

  • Support the morale, well-being and recreation of the crew and their families
  • Encourage, advocate, and generate statewide support for the crew of USS Colorado throughout the life of the submarine and to educate the citizens of Colorado about their namesake submarine
  • Educate the crew about the beauty of Colorado and the heritage of previous vessels commissioned as USS Colorado
  • Raise funds and finance appropriate events and activities associated with these objectives
